FACULTY OF ARTS RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Faculty of Arts Research Grants

Grants are available to assist
faculty with funding research projects that do not require major resources,
including pilot studies or projects nearing completion. Through the YUFA
Collective Agreement (Article 19.29), two funds (Minor Research Grants
and Junior Faculty Research) go towards providing support for full-time
tenure track faculty and junior faculty research projects. Faculty of Arts
CLAs, SRCs, contract faculty (unit II) and retired Arts faculty who are
eligible to teach will also be considered.

Value
The CRGS has deemed that, applicants
may request a maximum of $5000.00 (previously $4000.00). An additional
$2,500 may be available for personnel costs only, see the Guidelines for
further details.

Faculty of Arts Fellowships

Faculty of Arts Fellowships are
available to recognize and encourage outstanding research by providing
the opportunity to complete a significant research project. Up to four
Fellowships are awarded annually, with a minimum of one Fellowship reserved
and awarded to probationary faculty (untenured faculty in the tenure stream)
displaying promise of excellence.

Specific Research Grants Program

The Specific Research Grants Program
permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research grant
in lieu of salary through a mechanism which includes peer oversight. While
grants awarded under this program are considered as taxable income, the
grant payment will be treated as a T4A income for tax purposes and no income
tax will be deducted by the University. The award recipient is responsible
for reporting the income to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency and declaring
against it eligible expenditures.
PENSION INFORMATION (new for May
1, 2007)
All applicants receiving a Specific
Research Grant from competitions on or after May 1, 2007 will have an adjustment
made to pensionable earnings and pension contributions as outlined in Appendix

Value:
Leave Grants: The total funds requested
cannot exceed the remaining sabbatical year salary minus one-sixth of your
regular 100% salary. This amount must be retained to be paid in the usual
manner; otherwise fringe benefits coverage with the University will not
be maintained.
Non-Leave Grants: The total funds
requested cannot exceed 50% of the salary during the grant period.
