Institute for Work & Health short
research course:
Intervention Mapping: Developing
and Evaluating Theory and Evidence-Based Programs
July 21 & 22, 2008, 9am - 4pm
Professor Nell Gottlieb, Professor of
Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin and co-author of
Health Promotion Planning: An Intervention Mapping Approach, will
be presenting an introductory course on Intervention Mapping. All registrants
will receive a copy of the book. This course is for both researchers and
non-researchers interested in the evaluation of program interventions.
After two days, you will have a basic knowledge of intervention mapping
tools and be able to engage in project-based intervention mapping. Click

The National Collaborating Centres
(NCCs) for Public Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada: 3rd
Annual Summer Institute in KSTE
August 5 - 7, 2008 in Kelowna, BC
Knowledge synthesis, translation, and
exchange (KSTE) is a key mandate for the NCCs for Public Health. This conference
will focus on research, education, implementation, and evaluation within
the emerging science of KSTE and will highlight a range of initiatives
that exemplify KSTE in action in the six public health areas of the NCCs:
Aboriginal Health, Determinants of Health, Environmental Health, Healthy
Public Policy, Infectious Disease, and Methods and Tools. Click

SSHRC Grant in Aid of Travel (ORS)

Funding to full-time faculty members
for foreign travel (i.e., outside Canada, US and US posessions) for which
the applicant is giving a paper or making a substantial presentation. One
travel award per indvididual, per year. Value: Up to the cost of return

SSHRC: Aid to Scholarly Journals

for this SSHRC program which helps defray the costs of publishing scholarly
articles, assists with distributions and supports journals in their transition
to digital media. Value: up to $30,000 per year for three years.

Research Council of Canada (NSERC): Request for Proposals (RFP) for
the Inter-American Collaboration in Materials Research (CIAM) Initiative
Deadlines August

Free form letter or e-mail for Collaborative Mobility Grants; November

This funding opportunity is for collaborative
activities in materials research among investigators from Argentina, Brazil,
Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the United States.
As part of this Request for Proposals, NSERC will also entertain proposals
for Collaborative Mobility Grants that aim to establish new inter-American
collaborations, support international mobility and/or support networking
efforts between scientists who wish to use their respective existing grants
to support their collaborative research work. Value: the maximum allowable
requested amount from NSERC for a single project is $60,000 per year, for
up to three years.
Ontario Ministry of Research and
Innovation (MRI): Early Researcher Award program (ERA) Deadlines
October 3, 2008 – Draft of NOI for
review to Office of Research Services; October 10, 2008 – The Round 5
Notice of Intent (NOI); November 28, 2008 – The Round 5 application deadline
The Early Researcher Award program (ERA)
aims to help promising, recently-appointed Ontario researchers build their
research teams of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research
associates. The goal of the program is to improve Ontario’s ability to
attract and retain the best and brightest research talent. Value: Each
award to a leading researcher is a maximum of $100,000 and must be matched
by an additional $50,000 from the researcher’s institution and/or a private
sector partner. In addition, up to $40,000 will be provided by the Ministry
to the institution for indirect costs.

The 2009/10 India Studies Fellowship
Competition (ORS) Deadline
June 30, 2008
These fellowships, made possible by
the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, provide travel, research and living
allowances to Canadian scholars while they study in India during the 2009-2010
academic year. The objective of these fellowships is to promote understanding
of India in Canada. Value: A monthly living allowance of Rs 19,200,
a monthly research stipend of Rs 4,800 and return airfare to India.
