4) Specific Research Grant
(Leave and Non-Leave)
Next Deadline: May
1, 2008 (for grants beginning July 1)
PENSION INFORMATION:(new
as of May 1, 2007)
All applicants receiving a Specific
Research Grant from competitions on or after May 1, 2007 will have
an adjustment made to pensionable earnings and pension contributions as
outlined in Appendix B of the application form. If you have any questions
please contact Terisa Ducharme at extension 77564 or email duchart@yorku.ca
Purpose:
The Specific Research Grants program
at York permits, under certain conditions, a researcher to receive a research
grant in lieu of salary. The grant may be used for all the purposes of
a grant-in-aid of research. While grants awarded under this program are
considered as taxable income, the grant payment will be treated as a T4A
income for tax purposes and no income tax will be deducted by the University.
The award recipient is responsible for reporting the income to the Canada
Customs and Revenue Agency and declaring against it eligible expenditures.
Grants fall under two categories,
as follows:
Leave Grants: The total funds
requested cannot exceed the remaining sabbatical year salary minus one-sixth
of your regular 100% salary. This amount must be retained to be paid in
the usual manner; otherwise fringe benefits coverage with the University
would not be maintained. Eligibility:
Full Time Faculty and Librarians
Non-Leave Grants: The total funds
requested cannot exceed 50% of the salary during the grant period. Eligibility:
Full Time Faculty, CLAs, Contract Faculty (Unit 2) and Librarians

6) York Ad Hoc - Travel Grants
to Conferences
Next Deadline: June
15
Purpose:
To provide full-time faculty members
and librarians with travel grants to conferences at which a substantial
presentation is being made.
The support of faculty members' travel
to conferences should normally come from departmental, faculty, research
grant or travel grant funds, or from the meeting organizers. However, there
may be circumstances, particularly in the case of junior faculty, where
a member of faculty is to make a substantial presentation at a conference
and where support from normal sources of funding is not available, and
it is in these unusual cases that the Ad Hoc Fund may act as a last
resort to make travel possible.
Amount:
Up to the cost of return minimum airfare
Who can apply?
Support is provided to (a) full time
faculty and professional librarians holding probationary/tenured continuing
appointments and (b) full time faculty and professional librarians holding
contractually limited appointments for more than one year, provided the
travel falls within the current appointment period.
Restriction:
Only one grant per fiscal year (May
1 - April 30) will be awarded per faculty member.
Value:
The Committee will normally fund only
up to the cost of return minimum air fare to conferences held a substantial
distance from Toronto.

of applications for the usual programs of research support (e.g., CIHR,
