October 2011: a letter from our MA 2010 student:
Emrul Hasan is a researcher for the Fraser Institute and has recently co-written with Neil Mohindra an article on "Personal Cost and Affordability of Canadian Auto Insurance: 2011 Edition". Their study compares the average cost and affordability of personal passenger utomobile insurance premiums in each of the 10 Canadian provinces from 2007 to 2009. It has een quoted more than 100 times in some enowned Canadian newspapers including Vancouver Sun and Toronto un.You an find the original paper at -

Congratulations to Sadat Reza for winning the 2010 PhD Dissertation prize! Sadat's dissertation "Essays on Econometric Analysis of Strike Duration Data" was written under the supervision of Professor Paul Rilstone.
Members ofthe FGS Awards Committee were "impressed by his extensive research, exceptional writing and the originality of the dissertation". The Committee wrote that Sadat's thesis "is not only a major contribution to the field, but an undertaking of which (The Graduate Progam in Economics), the Faculty of Graduate Studies and York University can be proud.
